"I propose a toast!" Tails declared with a smile, slinging an arm around my shoulders and holding up his can of Arizona tea.
"But I have a chili dog." I answered, though I gave a little smile.
"Then toast the chili dog. For a better tomorrow!"

It came quickly. Too quickly, in fact. The day I had been dreading for at least a week. Well, not exactly dreading..
But I wished it never existed.
I didn't want to get out of bed, out of the warm, safe blankets that protected me from the cruel, cold world of reality. I never wanted to wake up, never wanted it to come. But to my demise and disappointment, it came, with a gentle and welcoming hand touching my shoulder to make it all that much heavier.
"Sonic," A soft voice called. "Wake up."
I knew it was my mother, but I let my mouth form a slight scowl and shrugged away her hand, then digged my chin into the blankets.
